The ASL Education Center is the sole source provider of the American Sign Language Assessment (ASLA), a standardized language arts assessment of ten different language skills in ASL. Thousands of students aged 4 - 19 across the U.S. have taken the ASLA. Because it is computer-based, test-takers can independently log in, view instructions in ASL, and respond to multiple-choice test items.

Test results are provided in an Individual Score Report, which can be used to develop IEP goals, plan instruction, and demonstrate individual growth from year to year. Because administration is standardized, ASLA results can also be compared across schools, districts, and states. The ASLA has been shown to be valid and reliable.

This fall, we are excited to roll out new features in the ASLA online portal that make it even easier for schools to administer the test, set up proctor and student access, and manage student data!

The ASLA is designed for PreK-12 students aged 4 - 19. Student test-takers can easily log in, independently view ASL instructions, and respond to multiple-choice test items. ASLA has also been used in research with adult participants. 

With data from thousands of deaf students across the country, the ASLA has been shown to be valid and reliable. Student test results are provided in an Individual Score Report, which can be used to develop IEP goals, plan instruction, and demonstrate individual growth from year to year. As with an standardized assessment, ASLA results make it possible to compare the language learning of student groups within schools, districts, and states.

A new array of exciting features will be released in the ASLA online portal this fall, making it easier to administer the test schoolwide, add new proctors, reset student logins, and manage student data.
